Handunnetti ridiculed on social media over remarks at World Economic Forum

Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development Sunil Handunnetti has come under fire on social media following his recent appearance at the 16th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, organised by the World Economic Forum (WEF) from June 24 to 26 in Tianjin, China.

The criticism centres on the Minister’s use of the English language during a panel session.

Several social media users alleged that Minister Handunnetti read from a prepared script, failing to respond directly to questions posed by the event host, leading to a lack of coherence and engagement.

The controversy also highlights broader concerns about communication skills and preparedness among public officials representing Sri Lanka on the world stage.
