More than ten private institutions have submitted requests to rent ministerial bungalows, according to sources in the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government.

Many government institutions and several judges had also submitted requests for these residences.

Minister of Public Administration Professor Chandana Abeyratne said that the committee appointed to investigate the issues regarding ministerial bungalows and presidential bungalows is currently conducting an assessment of their values and that the decision to be taken regarding these bungalows will be announced after that assessment.

Although various parties have submitted requests to rent these ministerial bungalows, he said that none of those requests have been considered so far.

There are 9 bungalows allocated for the President across the country located in Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Anuradhapura, Kataragama, Jaffna, Embilipitiya, Bentota and Mahiyanganaya.

The Ministry of Public Administration says that some ministerial bungalows have become dilapidated and unusable.

A ministry spokesperson said that they are unable to carry out repairs due to financial constraints.
