Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, Wasantha Samarasinghe, said that chickens only need a certain amount of rice and that if they are fed rice alone, the egg yolks will turn white.

Noting that there is no accurate data in the country on how much rice is needed for human consumption and how much for animal consumption, he highlighted the need for the government to establish an accurate database in this regard.

Addressing parliament recently, he said that all these issues should be considered while working on the country’s food security.
