Ongoing exodus of top officials continues with JEDB chairman’s resignation

Jayantha Thilakarathne, chairman of the Janatha Estate Development Board (JEDB), has resigned from his post, effective 15 August.

His departure marks the latest in a growing wave of resignations among senior figures in key state institutions, highlighting increasing instability within Sri Lanka’s administrative framework.

V. Sahadevan, chairman of the Palmyrah Development Board, has also stepped down, citing personal reasons.

Sahadevan’s resignation was submitted in a letter to Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Samantha Vidyaratne.

Sahadevan’s exit comes less than a year after his appointment on 22 October 2024, which followed the abrupt dismissal of his predecessor, Selvin Irenaeus Mariampillai, just 12 days into office.

The rapid turnover at senior levels within these boards raises questions about governance and continuity in Sri Lanka’s plantation sector.
