Weeks after the special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic, nearly 600 metric tons of garbage collected across the city of Kandy remain uncleared, according to sources within the Kandy Municipal Council.

The waste, which was collected from various parts of the city during the exposition, has been temporarily dumped at the Gohagoda waste dumpsite.

Despite growing concerns from the public, the Kandy Municipal Council has yet to arrive at a final decision on its disposal.

Only around 100 metric tons of the collected garbage have been sorted and set aside by municipal health workers for processing.

The remaining waste continues to accumulate, with no immediate solution in sight.

It is reported that transporting the garbage to an incineration facility operated by the Colombo Municipal Council would result in significant expenditure.
