The Election Commission has stipulated that nomination lists for the local government election must be compiled for both divisional and proportional representation levels.

Notably, the Commission has stressed the importance of youth involvement, with a requirement that youth representation on each list must exceed 25 percent.

Gender representation has also been addressed, with specific requirements for female candidates. At the divisional level, nomination lists must include at least 25 percent female candidates, while at the proportional level, the list must ensure 50 percent female representation.

The Commission said that individuals who turn 18 by February 1, 2025, will be eligible to vote in the upcoming local government elections.

As a result, all those born on or before January 31, 2007, will have the right to cast their vote.

An official notification was issued in the Gazette, citing Section 76(a) of the Local Government Elections Ordinance and Section 24(a) of the Voters Registration Act, to formalize this important decision.
