Maskeliya plantation workers protest for a wage increase

A group of workers belonging to the Maskeliya Plantation Company held a protest to demand an increase of their daily wage to Rs. 2,000.

The protestors said the present wage was not sufficient to cover their day-to-day expenses.

Successive governments promised to increase the wage, but it never happened, they said.

That is true for the present regime too, despite being in office for one year now, they said.
