MP alleges 323 containers held LTTE weapons, claims risk to life for disclosure

MP Ramanathan Archchuna has alleged that the 323 red-flagged containers controversially released without undergoing customs inspection contained weapons once used by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

Speaking in Parliament on Thursday, MP Archchuna claimed that these containers held arms reportedly linked to the late LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.

He said the information was conveyed to him by members of the Tamil diaspora.

“I have learned that the contents of that container included weapons that were used by Prabhakaran himself,” Archchuna declared, warning that the disclosure put his life at risk. “I’m saying this at great personal risk. I have no security. I could be shot for revealing this.”

According to the MP, the weapons had been stashed in Thailand prior to 2009 and were part of a long-dormant LTTE arms cache.

He further alleged that the late rebel leader had attempted to bring these weapons to Sri Lanka before the conclusion of the war.

The weapons, Archchuna claimed, were eventually smuggled into the country by LTTE operatives with the involvement of individuals such as Kumaran and the notorious Selvarasa Pathmanathan, also known as “KP”.

In a dramatic political turn, Arjuna also made allegations against President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, stating that prior to his election, Dissanayake had travelled to Germany and engaged in discussions with members of the Tamil diaspora.

“He made certain promises during that visit. He agreed to carry out actions abroad that could not be implemented within the country,” Archchuna said.
