Samabima Party Leader Deepthi Kumara Gunarathne has said that while former President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s politics may lack populist slogans, it produced tangible political and economic change in contrast to the “empty rhetoric” of the current National People’s Power (NPP) government.

He said that the NPP administration, despite its vocal public messaging, has failed to deliver significant progress since coming to power over a year ago.

Meanwhile, political analyst Vipula Karunathilaka noted that when the United National Party (UNP) gained power in 1977, it passed a substantial number of laws within six months and began implementing national programmes by 1978. Comparing it with the current administration, he observed that there has been little visible progress more than a year into the NPP government’s term.
