Police have arrested a principal of a primary school in Eppawala, Anuradhapura, for possessing over a kilogram of heroin.
According to the Anuradhapura Divisional Crime Investigation Division, the arrest was made following information obtained from a 30-year-old suspect apprehended in Nallamudawa, Eppawala, last week.
Acting on the tip-off, officers conducted a raid that led to the recovery of 1 kilogram and 185 grams of heroin, allegedly belonging to the principal.
The narcotics had been concealed behind a hotel in Eppawala.
Investigators also uncovered an electronic scale used for measuring drugs and a polythene sealing machine hidden in a nearby tank—equipment believed to have been used in drug distribution activities.
Police said that the principal’s wife is a member of the Peliyagoda Urban Council representing the National People’s Power (NPP).
The couple’s son was arrested just last month with 25 grams of heroin in his possession.
