Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to take legal action against any media outlets allegedly linked to drug trafficking, rather than making what he called unsubstantiated claims in Parliament.

“There is no need for speeches. Arrest them. Take legal action,” Premadasa told lawmakers on Wednesday (19), adding that the public expected “answers and solutions, not political theatrics.”

He accused the government of failing to meet its promises and wasting parliamentary time with “meaningless statements.”

Premadasa also pressed the administration to hold long-delayed Provincial Council elections instead of appointing another parliamentary select committee, adding that the government should “use the existing system and protect democracy.”
