More than 2,000 employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have raised concerns over delays in processing the Voluntary Retirement Scheme following the utility’s restructuring.

In a letter addressed to the Minister of Energy, the employees said they applied for the scheme after not being absorbed into new entities created under Extraordinary Gazette No. 2451/11, dated August 26, 2024.

Nearly 2,200 applicants remain without an official retirement date, citing repeated administrative delays that have disrupted financial and personal planning.

The employees urged authorities to conclude the process without further postponement.

The Voluntary Retirement Scheme was introduced as part of CEB’s restructuring plan, aimed at streamlining operations and forming new subsidiary entities.

However, employees say the uncertainty surrounding retirement dates is causing stress and complicating their future planning.
