Passengers, both local and foreign, were very much inconvenienced by heavy congestion at the inspection and immigration and emigration counters of the Katunayake airport last night (17).
Some of them even risked missing their flights, as a number of flights had been scheduled within a short period.
A senior official with the Airport and Aviation Services said Katunayake had no capacity to cater to an increase in passengers.
Therefore, he urged the government to pay attention to immediately implementing the airport’s second phase expansion project with Japanese assistance.
