Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya informed Parliament on Friday (06) that several files belonging to the now-defunct Anti-Corruption Committee Office, which operated under the Prime Minister’s Office during the Yahapalana government, have gone missing.
Responding to a question raised by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, the Prime Minister revealed that key documents, including complaint records and files relating to an accident involving a member of the committee, are currently unaccounted for.
“We are unaware of what happened to the files. We don’t know whether former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe removed them when he assumed the presidency in 2022,” Prime Minister Amarasuriya said.
She noted that the Anti-Corruption Committee was established in 2015 with the approval of the Cabinet. Then-Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe served as its chairperson. The committee included a number of prominent political figures and civil society representatives.
Among its members were current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, Minister Ananda Wijepala, Mangala Samaraweera, Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, R. Sampanthan, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, M. A. Sumanthiran, J. C. Weliamuna, Jayampathi Wickramaratne, and Malik Samarawickrama.
