Sri Lanka Police have introduced a dedicated emergency contact number to support life-saving rescue operations as adverse weather continues to affect several regions, officials announced Saturday.

The Police Marine Division, equipped with officers, vessels and specialised rescue gear, has been deployed across the country to assist with evacuations and urgent response efforts.

Members of the public can request immediate rescue assistance by contacting SSP Kapila Premadasa at 071-8591868, police said.

In addition to the new hotline, police have activated a Special Disaster Operations Room at Police Headquarters to coordinate emergency responses with the Disaster Management Centre, the armed forces and other state agencies.

The center oversees evacuations, search-and-rescue missions and security operations in communities facing heightened flood and landslide risks.

Police units nationwide remain on high alert and have been equipped with boats, rescue equipment and emergency supplies.

The public may also reach the operations room through multiple hotlines—011-2013051, 011-2027148, 011-2027149, 011-2472757, 011-2430912—or via email at [email protected].

Authorities said special programs are in place to protect the homes and property of displaced residents.
