The Constitutional Council had been informed prior to a meeting yesterday afternoon (13) that the president had withdrawn his nominee to a vacant position in the Supreme Court.
The name of M.T. Mohamed Lafar, presently acting chairman of the Court of Appeal, was sent to the CC on 09 June.
That is to fill the vacancy that will be created following the retirement of Gamini Ameresekera on 20 June.
On 18 June, Lafar will have his 63rd birthday, the retirement age for CA judges.
