Prime Minister and Minister of Education Harini Amarasuriya has raised concerns over government school principals continuing to collect money from parents despite clear instructions not to do so.

Speaking at an event in Hambantota, the Prime Minister said, “Some principals do not listen to what we say,” referring to ongoing complaints about unauthorized fund collection from parents.

She emphasized that strict action would be taken against schools and principals who defy ministry directives, adding that such practices undermine the principle of free education.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged a lack of staff to investigate these complaints and announced that the investigation units of the Ministry of Education would be strengthened to ensure proper enforcement.
