Former Sri Lankan president Ranil Wickremesinghe remains under medical supervision in the Intensive Care Unit of Colombo National Hospital, following his remand in connection with an ongoing investigation.

The former President’s wife, Professor Maithree Wickramasinghe, had visited him at the hospital.

Sources familiar with the visit said the couple spoke briefly before she returned home, reportedly “deeply shaken” by the experience.

Although no official statement has been released by Prof. Wickramasinghe, those close to the family say she is gravely concerned about her husband’s condition.

Prof. Wickramasinghe, a respected academic in her own right, has been undergoing cancer treatment and continues to receive regular care.

The former president was taken into custody earlier this week in relation to allegations of misusing state funds during a private overseas visit.

The case has drawn criticism from political analysts who say the move is potentially politically motivated.
