With one year gone by since the presidential election, public life has collapsed completely since the present regime has not fulfilled any of its election promises, said opposition leader Sajith Premadasa during a visit to the people of Galnewa in Kalawewa.
An absence of any planning has left half the population in poverty, he said, asking the government to take full responsibility for that.
People will give the proper answer to the “deceitful government”, he said, daring it to hold the provincial council election at least now.
He noted issues such as high electricity tariffs, job insecurity of 23,000 CEB workers, no certified price for paddy farmers or compensation for crop damage and deaths due to wild elephant attacks.
Public servants are forced to take to the streets to win their rights as even fundamental rights of the people continue to be violated, he added.
