Sri Lanka’s main opposition party, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), said it will launch a coordinated campaign against the ruling National People’s Power (NPP) government from January, 2026.
Speaking to reporters, SJB parliamentarian Hector Appuhamy said the party has a clear strategy and timeline for its campaign.
“We will reveal the full program that will be rolled out after January in due course. Alongside this, the SJB is also engaged in a comprehensive study on how to rebuild the country,” he said.
Appuhamy said that the SJB is reviewing past and current government failures and studying ways to reform governance.
He said that focus areas include attracting investment, easing the tax burden on citizens, and protecting small and medium-scale industries.
“The responsibility of steering this country forward will soon fall to the SJB. We are the party that has a genuine plan to take Sri Lanka into the future,” Appuhamy said.
