Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne has allotted for himself a unit at Lauris Apartment complex, while using his official residence for various occasions, alleged Nava Janatha Peramuna leader Sugeeshwara Bandara.

It is a misuse of state property and an offence under the anti-corruption act of 2023 to use two official residences at the same time, he noted at a media briefing.

Dr. Wickramaratne got unit no. 1/8 at the apartment complex through the public administration secretary in January 2025, said Bandara.

He said further the NPP has now changed its stance of not accepting staff, official vehicles and fuel allowance.

The speaker uses two vehicles, for which 900 litres of fuel is given.

He has a staff of 15, with the personal, coordinating and media secretaries and the coordinating officer using vehicles and fuel at state expense as well, added Bandara.
