Sri Lanka could face a renewed economic crisis by the Sinhala New Year in April 2026, driven in part by the impact of Cyclone Ditwah, as predicted by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, United National Party (UNP) Deputy General Secretary Harin Fernando said.

He noted that the country is moving toward a foreign exchange crisis and warned that the situation could deteriorate within months.

“Sri Lanka is moving towards a forex crisis. Remember what I said today (15), and you will understand it on April 15, 2026,” Fernando added.
