Sri Lanka’s Transport Ministry has announced the immediate enforcement of strict measures targeting vehicles operating with dangerous and unauthorised modifications, in the wake of last week’s deadly crash in Ella.
Deputy Transport Minister Dr. Prasanna Gunasena, in a statement released via his official Facebook page, said attention will be paid to vehicles fitted with excessively loud sound systems and flashing multi-coloured lights—features that violate national transport regulations.
The crackdown comes in the aftermath of a tragic accident on Thursday night near the 24th milepost on the Ella–Wellawaya road.
Fifteen passengers were killed, and 17 others were injured in one of the worst road accidents reported this year.
