Sri Lanka’s top science official resigns over political interference

Professor Saman Senaweera, who served as Chairman of the National Science Foundation and Director of the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology, has tendered his resignation from both positions, due to political interference.

In his resignation letter addressed to the Minister of Science and Technology, Prof. Senaweera said that he could no longer continue in his roles under undue political pressure.

A respected senior scientist with international experience, Prof. Seneweera was working in Australia prior to his return to Sri Lanka.
