The State, Provincial and Government Federation of Government Trade Unions says that the trust placed in the new National People’s Power (NPP) government by the public servants has been shattered by its maiden budget.

Speaking to reporters, its General Secretary Ajith K. Thilakaratne said that although public servants listened to the budget with great expectations, the budget that has been presented has left public servants very disappointed.

“The 2025 budget has deceived public servants. Public servants have taken to the streets in the past and unanimously demanded a salary increase of Rs. 20,000. It was to achieve that objective that the majority of public servants took the initiative to appoint this government. It was this government that led the struggle for a salary increase of Rs. 20,000. The hopes of those serving in the public sector have been shattered today. We see this as a serious blow to public servants,” he said.
