The Joint Council for Professions of Supplementary to Medicine (JCPSM) has announced plans to initiate trade union action due to the government’s failure to resolve critical issues affecting its members.
In a statement issued on Sunday (25), the JCPSM said it would begin union action at 8.00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 27, unless satisfactory solutions are presented by the end of the day on Monday (26).
The move follows a series of “repeated but unfruitful discussions” with Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa. Despite multiple rounds of dialogue, the council claims that no substantial progress has been made on several longstanding concerns.
Among the key issues highlighted by the JCPSM is the government’s failure to recruit qualified graduates from state universities into the supplementary medical professions.
The council also criticised the continued delay in filling vacancies, which it says has created a serious shortage of trained personnel in hospitals and clinics across the country.
“These problems have a direct and detrimental impact on the efficiency and quality of public healthcare delivery,” the JCPSM warned.
