The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) has accused the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake-led government of failing to deliver on commitments made to the Tamil communities in Sri Lanka’s Northern and Eastern provinces.
Speaking to the media, TNA Batticaloa District MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam warned that unless these promises are met, the TNA will push to suspend all administrative functions in the region.
He said that despite nearly a year in office, the government has yet to fulfil any of its pledges, including repealing the controversial Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA), resolving land disputes, and ensuring the security of Tamil youth.
The TNA plans to launch a hartal across the Northern and Eastern provinces on 18 August, after postponing an earlier planned protest on 15 August out of respect for the Madhu Church festival.
