Nearly 200,000 electricity consumers across Sri Lanka are currently without power due to widespread disruptions caused by severe weather, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
Deputy General Manager Noel Priyantha reported that roughly 25% of the CEB’s seven million customers are experiencing outages.
Restoration efforts are underway, but ongoing adverse weather conditions are complicating repairs.
The Central Province has recorded the highest number of outages, with over 20,000 cases, while Badulla District ranks second, where blocked access roads are slowing restoration work.
Communication difficulties have delayed reporting from some areas.
A technical team of 9,000 CEB personnel has been deployed to restore electricity, but officials said that full restoration will take time given the scale of the disruptions and challenging road conditions.
