National People’s Power MP Kaushalya Ariyaratne highlighted the unfortunate state of 1,000 smart boards that were purchased for schools have been left to deteriorate in a warehouse in Paththalagedara.

According to the MP, the smart boards were received from China in February 2024, following a government allocation of Rs. 1.5 billion to modernize educational facilities.

Ariyaratne pointed out that despite the considerable investment in this initiative, the smart boards have remained unused due to a lack of a proper implementation plan.

The MP criticized the government for failing to establish a clear procedure to integrate the technology into schools, leaving the equipment to languish in storage.

“The boards are still in a warehouse, wasting away because no plan was in place to use them effectively,” said Ariyaratne. “While the intention was to enhance the quality of education through modern technology, it’s clear that the lack of foresight and planning has resulted in a massive waste of resources.”
