Nineteen ministers and deputy ministers are reportedly receiving two fuel allowances still from their respective ministries as well as from parliament.
Parliament stopped paying fuel allowances for the prime minister and 30 ministers and deputy ministers from April at their request.
The financial division of parliament said payments for the others too, would be suspended if similar requests are made.
In the meantime, parliament spent more than Rs. 80 million in March on payments for the speaker, deputy speaker, deputy chairman of committees and the MPs.
An MP is entitled to a monthly allowance of Rs. 54,285, as well as Rs. 1,000 for entertainment, Rs. 3,500 for a driver, Rs. 50,000 for telephone bills, Rs. 100,000 to maintain an office and Rs. 15,000 to cover travelling expenses of the personal staff.
Also, an MP receives Rs. 2,500 per day for attendance at House sittings and at committee meetings.
The fuel allowance differs in accordance with the distance, with those living in Colombo getting 283.94 litres per month and MPs from Batticaloa, Jaffna, Digamadulla receiving as much as 639.53 litres.
