The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has imposed a $2,000 fine on Sri Lankan footballer Mohamed Thilham for displaying a “Pray for Free Palestine” message following Sri Lanka’s match against Chinese Taipei on June 10.

The AFC cited a breach of its regulations regarding political statements on the field but noted mitigating circumstances in the case, resulting in a reduced penalty.

Thilham has been given one month to settle the fine.
