The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has filed five separate cases against Major Neville Wanniarachchi, the Personal Security Officer (PSO) to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, over his alleged failure to declare assets and liabilities during his tenure in office.

Major Wanniarachchi is charged with failing to submit mandatory declarations of assets and liabilities for five consecutive years from 2010 to 2014, in violation of statutory requirements imposed on public officials.

The cases were taken up before Colombo Acting Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya on May 18, who issued notice on the accused to appear in court on September 28.

The charges come under the framework of the Declaration of Assets and Liabilities Law No. 1 of 1975, which mandates annual disclosure from certain categories of state employees, including those in senior or sensitive positions.
