The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the revision of tariffs for renewable energy (RE) projects, including rooftop solar systems, with the new rates officially taking effect from June 16.
The revised tariff structure, communicated through a circular issued by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and backed by the Ministry of Energy, introduces flat rates for a range of renewable technologies under Standardised Power Purchase Agreements (SPPAs), fixed for 20 years.
For rooftop solar photovoltaic (RTSPV) systems, tariffs now range from Rs. 20.90 per unit for systems up to 5 kW, to Rs. 14.46 for installations above 1 MW. These rates apply to new applications submitted from June 16 onwards.
Other updated tariffs include Rs. 25.74 per unit for mini hydro, Rs. 23.83 for wind, Rs. 17.62 for ground-mounted solar, and Rs. 24.33 for floating solar. Biomass projects and municipal solid waste-to-energy projects have been set at Rs. 14.57 and Rs. 44.04 per unit, respectively — the latter being the highest among the new rates.
The CEB and Lanka Electricity Company have been instructed to implement the changes immediately and ensure compliance across all relevant departments.
