All trade unions of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) have announced plans to escalate their strike action against the government’s proposal to split the CEB into four separate entities, effective today, September 15.

The strike, initially launched on September 4, began with a ‘work-to-rule’ approach led by the Ceylon Electricity Board Engineers’ Union (CEBEU) alongside other affiliated unions.

Despite 11 days of industrial action, union leaders say that authorities have yet to engage in meaningful dialogue to address their concerns.

In a statement, the CEB Engineers’ Union warned that the next phase of the strike could see intensified action, following further discussions scheduled for later today among trade union representatives.
