Complaint against new tender policy of Litro Gas

The Bribery Commission has been asked by a complaint to inquire into a major fraud in the tender process of Litro Gas Company.

Convener of the national movement for the protection of public properties Nuwan Tilakaratne said the company has had a proper tender procedure that enabled it to earn profits without burdening consumers.

Key among its success are that its rival supplier had never been allowed to place tender bids and disallowed bidders from using warehouse and transport facilities owned by Litro Gas.

Successive governments had come under pressure to relax those stringent measures.

Under the present regime, a new tender policy is in place, under which the second condition has been lifted to allow bidders to use warehouse and transport facilities owned by Litro Gas, said Tilakaratne.

The result will be the end of the company’s monopoly in deciding gas prices and its coming under the hands of the private sector, he said.

He noted even MP Dayasiri Jayasekara has raised this fraud previously.
