The Constitutional Council (CC) has rejected the nomination of O.R. Ranasinghe, the Army’s audit officer, to serve as auditor general.

Ranasinghe received the backing of four council members during the vote.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, MP Ajith P. Perera and three independent members voted against the nomination.

He was the third candidate put forward for the position by  President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation director H.T.P. Chandana and Senior Deputy Auditor General L.S.I. Jayaratne, who were previously nominated, also rejected by the CC.

The CC rejected all of them on grounds of allegations of irregularities and professional disqualifications.
