Drug kingpin on bail flees to India?

The Sri Lanka Police suspect that notorious underworld figure and drug kingpin Sellaperumage Salidu Malshika Gunaratne, alias “Kudu Salindu”, who was ordered to appear before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) every Sunday as part of his bail conditions, has fled to India.

It is said that the Sri Lankan authorities have alerted Indian security forces to take necessary measures to arrest him.

Police had recently informed the Panadura High Court that Kudu Salindu had avoided appearing before the CID as ordered by the court.

“Podi Lassi” arrested in Mumbai

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan authorities have requested India to hand over organized crime boss and drug trafficker Janith Madushanka de Silva, alias “Podi Lassi”.

The request was made by Sri Lanka’s Acting IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya, who confirmed that the Indian High Commission in Colombo had been contacted for information in this regard.

Podi Lassi, who was released on bail by the Balapitiya Magistrate Court on December 9, 2024, had fled to India.

He was arrested in Mumbai yesterday (16).
