Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne on Monday (18) endorsed the certificate on the Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Bill, parliamentary sources said today.

The Bill, which was passed in Parliament on August 6, will now come into force as the Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Act, No. 14 of 2025.

The Act provides for the preparation of a “National Electricity Policy” as part of the National Policy on Energy, replacing the “National Electricity Advisory Council.”

It also substitutes the term “Wholesale Electricity Market” with “National Electricity Market,” whose key objectives include ensuring a continuous, efficient and affordable electricity supply, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and advancing renewable energy.
