Energy Minister acknowledges misconduct ruling in former role

Sri Lanka’s Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody has admitted to being found guilty on two misconduct charges during his previous tenure as a manager at the state-owned Lanka Fertilizer Company. The case, dating back to 2015, centres on a road construction project at the company’s Hunupitiya warehouse complex.

Appearing on the 360° current affairs programme on Derana, Jayakody said the appointment was made at the request of then Agriculture Minister — now President — Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

He claimed his involvement in the project was limited to signing his initials on a file and denied any direct wrongdoing.

The Minister also raised concerns about the legal process, stating that the ruling was issued by a new judge who, he alleged, was unfamiliar with the full context of the case.
