The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau today submitted a detailed report to the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court concerning an alleged Rs. 3 million fraud involving the lease of a two-storey building and land owned by the National Workers’ Institute, based on a forged deed.

Magistrate A.D. Chathurika de Silva instructed the Bureau to record statements from Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe, and Kaduwela Mayor Ranjan Jayalal, directing that their responses be added to the case file.

The report presented includes a certified copy of the alleged forged deed, minutes from a 2017 meeting appointing Minister Samarasinghe as President of the National Workers’ Congress trade union, several lease agreements, and court records from proceedings in Kaduwela, Mount Lavinia, and the Civil Appellate High Court.

All documents were formally submitted to court by Fraud Bureau officers for further judicial review. The investigation is ongoing.
