The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has accused Sri Lanka’s Health Ministry of seriously undermining the annual doctor transfer process, claiming nearly 10,000 medical professionals have been negatively affected due to administrative interference.
In a statement issued on Thursday (21), the GMOA alleged that Health Ministry officials had unilaterally scrapped 78 approved vacancies without securing the mandatory approval from the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The union said that despite the PSC agreeing with its stance that urgent corrective measures were necessary, the Ministry had yet to take meaningful action.
The GMOA accused senior health administrators of deliberately disrupting the process, calling it a violation of due procedure.
As tensions escalate, the union has announced plans to launch trade union action starting at 8 a.m. on 25 August.
Further decisions, the GMOA said, would depend on how the situation develops in the coming days.
