The Ministry of Education has announced that a revised circular governing student admissions to intermediate grades will be released next week, as part of efforts to reform and streamline the school admissions process.
Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Madura Seneviratne said that the new guidelines are aimed at addressing several deficiencies in the current system.
The upcoming circular will introduce stricter, merit-based criteria designed to ensure that only eligible students are admitted, thereby improving transparency and accountability in school placements.
The Deputy Minister also emphasized that the revisions are intended to eliminate irregularities and illegal practices that have long undermined the integrity of the admissions process.
In addition to the changes for intermediate grades, Dr. Seneviratne said that a separate, updated circular for Grade 1 admissions is also expected to be published next week, as part of a broader overhaul of the national school admissions framework.
