Govt yet to resolve container transport delays

Although President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed to expedite the release of imported containers, the representatives of the container transport vehicles are alleging that the activities are still not being done properly.

However, Sri Lanka Customs says that the delay in the participation of the container agents and transport vehicle agents in the clearance activities has resulted in a congestion in releasing the containers.

On January 12, President Dissanayake called subject Minister Bimal Ratnayake and representatives of Sri Lanka Customs and Port related service associations and held a discussion on this issue.

At the meeting, the President agreed to have Sri Lanka Customs officers work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to expedite the clearance process.

Accordingly, although the queues for container transport trucks that existed today have decreased significantly, container transport truck drivers alleged that the queues continue to exist as clearance procedures are still not being carried out properly.
