The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, has opposed the Sri Lankan Government’s efforts to promote LGBTQ tourism, warning that such initiatives could undermine the country’s cultural identity and moral foundations.

Delivering a homily during Sunday mass, the Cardinal noted that while individuals born with homosexual tendencies must be treated with compassion and dignity, state-sanctioned promotion of lifestyles that he believes conflict with Sri Lankan traditions could leave the country’s youth vulnerable to exploitation.

“We must not allow decisions, even those made unknowingly at the highest levels of power, to erode the cultural values that have long held our society together,” the Cardinal said, expressing concern that such policies could have far-reaching consequences for the nation’s social fabric.
