Cabinet Spokesperson and Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa acknowledged that the government is currently unable to meet the full range of medicine requests made by medical specialists nationwide due to current economic constraints.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing at the Government Information Department, Dr. Jayatissa said only essential and high-demand medicines are being prioritised for procurement.

He assured that once the country’s financial situation improves, more resources would be allocated to expand supplies of both medications and surgical items.

The Health Minister pointed out that in cases where medicine supply is delayed, regional directors have been authorised to purchase required items and once a specialist makes a request, the hospital director can submit it to the Medical Supplies Division with the pharmacist’s approval.
