The Government Medical Officers’ Forum (GMOF) has expressed disappointment with this year’s budget, stating that it does not offer any relief or incentives for health workers.
GMOF president, Dr. Rukshan Bellana, criticized the budget for failing to address the pressing concerns of the healthcare sector.
He emphasized that there was nothing in the budget that would bring satisfaction or improve to the conditions of health workers.
Dr. Bellana further added that, in response to the government’s actions, trade unions have every right to protest.
He described the current situation as being worse than the “76-year curse,” implying a continuation of long-standing issues that remain unresolved despite years of political promises.
The GMOFs comments reflect growing dissatisfaction among health professionals regarding the government’s approach to healthcare funding and worker welfare, setting the stage for possible union actions in the near future.
Meanwhile, the Government Nursing Officers’ Association staged demonstrations in front of government hospitals across the island during the lunch hour yesterday (27).
The demonstration was held in protest against ‘arbitrary cuts to allowances’ in the 2025 Budget.
