The iconic Nuwara Eliya post office, one of Sri Lanka’s most recognisable colonial-era landmarks, is falling into disrepair, with its roof in a dilapidated condition and leaking during rain.
The “Pink Post Office”, a symbol of the hill country’s heritage and a popular attraction for local and foreign tourists, has long been admired for its distinctive Tudor-style architecture.
However, sources say the Postal Department has yet to take action to repair the roof and structural deficiencies, despite repeated complaints.
According to an organisation dedicated to the preservation of Nuwara Eliya, the government’s continued neglect of the building risks irreversible damage to a site of significant historical and architectural value.
The group warned that without immediate restoration, the landmark could deteriorate beyond repair.
