Hospitals crippled by health strike

Both inpatients and outpatients faced severe difficulties yesterday (12) due to the token strike launched in hospitals across the island in response to the rape of a female doctor at Anuradhapura Hospital,

Patients reported that those who visited clinics and outpatient departments for treatment were forced to return home without receiving their medicines.

Speaking to the media during the protest, Dr. Sasika Wijenayake of the GMOA said that the struggle will not end merely with the arrest of the suspect involved in the incident.

However, The doctors and the staff at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital have called off their strike after discussions with relevant authorities.

The 24-hour nationwide strike action launched by the GMOA was also called off at 8.00 a.m. today (13).
