India’s Minister of External Affairs, Dr. S. Jaishankar, is scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (22) with a high-level delegation to hold talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Indian media reports indicate that he will convey a personal message from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The discussions are expected to focus on a broad range of cooperation, including efforts to strengthen economic ties between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Zhao Leji, chairman of the Standing Committee of China’s National People’s Congress and China’s third most senior leader after President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, is due to arrive in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

He will also meet President Dissanayake and is scheduled to spend two days in the country.

Both visits are reported to take place against the backdrop of recent natural disasters, with discussions covering economic recovery, bilateral relations, and regional issues.

Dr. Jaishankar’s visit has attracted public attention as it coincides with a recent decision by Sri Lanka’s National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) to ban a consignment of substandard medicines from an Indian company.
