Tamil National People’s Front (TNPF) leader and Jaffna District MP Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam has said that, despite overwhelming evidence of atrocities committed against Tamils, no government in the world has been willing to bring the Sri Lankan state before an international court.

He made the remarks during a recent event in Jaffna, titled “Mirage of Justice,” held at the Thanthai Chelva Auditorium.

The discussion marked the commemoration of Dr Kasipillai Manoharan and five Tamil students, who were shot dead by Sri Lankan military personnel in Trincomalee in 2006—an incident that remains emblematic of impunity in post-war Sri Lanka.

Recalling his past address at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Ponnambalam said he had warned that the international mechanisms being introduced were not intended to deliver justice, but merely to offer symbolic accountability through procedural votes and resolutions.
